A late seventeenth century carved oak bible box,the front and ends carved with lunettes, the front bearing the initials 'RA' below the lock. At some time in the past the original wire hinges have been replaced with strap hinges. The interior of the lid is papered with nineteenth century newspaper cuttings, possibly to cover the cracks in the lid which do not affect its structural integrity but rather add to it's character.A nice piece with a good colour. Lock and hasp present, probably a later replacement, possibly contemporaneously with the hinges.
