A fine Seventeenth Century carved oak, three paneled coffer, with a beautiful waxed patina, each of the similar panels depicting two stags beneath the umbrella of the Tree of Life. The stag was considered King of the Forest, a symbol of piety, devotion and safety in God's care with the Tree of Life symbolising a fresh start in life, positive energy, good health and a bright future, a symbol of immortality, growth and strength. Possibly a commission from a gentleman for a presentation signifying an important life event. Lock missing.
